Ritangkar Dey

AI-First Enterprise Commerce Architect

I design the systems behind large B2B, B2C and B2B2C commerce platforms — SAP Commerce, S/4HANA and CPI integration, performance and security — and put grounded, explainable AI on top of them.

The client-deployed RAG + multi-agent assistant is private. The public Lab shows the layer underneath it: grounding, validation and explainability — mostly deterministic, on purpose.

Experience

From Engineer to Architect

Each step widened the scope: from building commerce features, to owning data models and performance, to designing integrations and leading delivery — and now applying AI on that foundation.

  1. Engineering

    Business Technology Analyst

    Deloitte US-IndiaAug 2018 – Oct 2020
    • Delivered SAP Commerce / Hybris across B2B, B2C and MLM e-commerce engagements in 10–20 member teams.
    • Built components and integrations in Java, Spring, JavaScript, MySQL, XML/JSON and Solr.
  2. Enterprise commerce depth

    Consultant

    Birlasoft · PuneOct 2020 – May 2022
    • Developed and maintained SAP Commerce solutions across analysis, design, implementation and releases.
    • Supported data migration (Hotfolder, Groovy) and the backend changes needed for Spartacus adoption.
  3. Architecture & scale

    Senior Consultant

    Birlasoft · PuneMay 2022 – Mar 2024
    • Engineered capabilities for a large US B2C footwear platform: services, REST APIs, data modelling, Solr and storefront integrations.
    • Addressed performance and scalability constraints in a heavily customised implementation through data restructuring, indexing and query optimisation.
    • Supported the move from a legacy JSP storefront to Spartacus / headless, adapting backend and OCC interactions.
    • Implemented a Commerce-based cashier/POS capability linking store transactions to accounts, orders and loyalty.
  4. Integration & leadership

    Senior Associate

    PwC India · KolkataApr 2024 – Present
    • Lead solution design, estimation, code review, releases and client-facing technical discussions for a large B2B SAP Commerce platform.
    • Design and deliver integrations with S/4HANA, C4C/Service Cloud, CPI, logistics providers and SMS/WhatsApp services.
    • Independently led the JDK 17 → 21 migration within a Commerce upgrade; the approach was adopted by other projects.
    • Lead delivery for a new B2B2C retail transformation with a 15+ member team — Phase 1 targets 6–7 stores in 3 months, long-term target 1,000 stores.
    More from this role
    • Established a reusable notification architecture (business events, business processes, notification actions) for WhatsApp, SMS and email.
    • Improved maintainability and scalability through data-model optimisation, reduced customisation and wider use of OOTB capabilities.
  5. AI-first enterprise commerce

Applied AI on the Commerce Stack

PwC innovation work + personal Engineering Lab
    • Built and led an enterprise AI commerce assistant (Angular, Java, multi-agent orchestration, RAG) deployed for a client.
    • Winning idea at the PwC India AI Hackathon; several proofs of concept across replenishment, integration support and product assistance.
    • A 19-project Engineering Lab on ranking, recommendation, root-cause analysis, grounding, performance and security.

How I Think About Commerce Systems

Technology choices follow the business question. Each layer below earns its place by changing an outcome — and each one has evidence in the Lab.

Enterprise commerce architecture Storefront, POS and messaging connect to SAP Commerce, which connects through SAP CPI to S/4HANA, Service Cloud and logistics. COMMERCE → INTEGRATION → INTELLIGENCEdrawn from real engagements, generalised
  1. 01Business

Start from the revenue, cost or service problem — not the platform.

  2. 02Commerce

B2B, B2C and B2B2C models on SAP Commerce, kept close to out-of-the-box capability.

  3. 03Architecture

Data models and boundaries that stay maintainable as customisation grows.

  4. 04Integration

S/4HANA, Service Cloud, CPI, logistics and messaging as designed, supportable flows.

  5. 05Performance

Measure first: indexing, caching, pagination, query shape. See the benchmarks.

  6. 06Security

Authorisation at the right layer, every time. See the model.

  7. 07Automation

Rules and decision engines with visible thresholds. See an example.

  8. 08AI

Grounded, validated and explainable — with a human able to override.

Applied AI

AI as an Engineering Layer on Enterprise Commerce

The same foundation — Commerce, Service Cloud, integration — now gets retrieval, agents and guardrails. Each item is labelled by its real status, so nothing experimental is presented as production.

PwC India AI Hackathon — winning idea. The Multi-Agent Executive Business Copilot was recognised for its business and client impact. It remains a concept and is not deployed.

Enterprise AI Commerce Assistant

An end-to-end enterprise chatbot answering across product, order and service context from Commerce and Service Cloud. Deployed for one client and being adapted for another.

Role & scope

Built end-to-end across frontend, backend, AI integration and orchestration. Client and system details are generalised for confidentiality.

Multi-Agent Executive Copilot

Decision support that moves from a headline metric to its root cause — retrieval, reasoning and forecasting agents with drill-down — without hopping between reports.

Commerce + Service Cloud Live-Agent Chat

A BTP middle layer connecting Commerce and Service Cloud UIs — agent availability, assignment, conversation history and routing.

AI B2B Replenishment Engine

Reads purchase history to find delayed reorders, estimates revenue and churn impact, and recommends no action, a nudge or an incentive under configurable rules.

AI Integration Healer

Analyses production logs, matches known issues to a knowledge base and recommends or triggers predefined remediation; new issues go to documentation research with confidence scores.

AI Product Companion

A product-page assistant that reads intent, documents and media to answer questions, suggest alternatives and bundles, and track purchase-confidence and budget signals.

The Engineering Lab shows the discipline underneath: evidence scoring, citation validation, factuality checks and explainable ranking — mostly deterministic, deliberately.

The Proof: Nineteen Projects

Portfolio is the story; these are the evidence. Each project has an interactive demo with hard-coded synthetic data, and the full code is on GitHub. Start with the six that best show how I think.
